Motivation to Manage Time?

I am often asked “Where can I find the motivation to change the way I manage my time?”

I get kind of puzzled by this mindset.

What do you mean where do you FIND motivation?

Just the very phrasing of this question suggests that we think there is a hidden source out there somewhere just waiting to be uncovered and that when we do, some magical force will overtake us and just excite us beyond our control, motivating us to do something we really don’t want to do in the first place.

Is this what motivation is to you?  An excitement beyond your control?  Something that makes you do something you really didn’t want to do?

If so, NO WONDER you think you need to FIND motivation.

We have it backwards.  We do not find the motivation so we can do something.  We do the thing which gives a result and the result provides the motivation to keep going.

Motivation is not found, created, built up, forced…………….

Motivation is the RESULT of action.

So, take a baby step toward your goal.  See and feel the results – don’t they make you want to keep going?  THAT is the wellspring of motivation.

If you don’t want to do it in the first place, NO amount of outside motivation or external enticement will motivate you to keep going!
